WHAT IS A TRADITIONAL HEALER?

The Ojibwe Dictionary Says This;

nenaandawi'iwed [na-v]  =  traditional healer

The First Nations Health Authority says that,  "Traditional healing refers to health practices, approaches, knowledge and beliefs incorporating First Nations healing and wellness while using ceremonies; plant, animal or mineral-based medicines; energetic therapies; or physical/hands on techniques."

Found Below, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Health  Describes the Ojibwe Medicine Wheel & The Power of Traditional Ways.

"First Nations health and wellness is based on a holistic model of health, and is often overlooked in the prevention and treatment of chronic conditions and in the promotion of health and wellness. An integral focus of First Nations healing and wellness is through the balance and inter-relationships of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a being. This relationship is discussed further in the First Nations Perspective on Health and Wellness."

SUNFLOWER HISTORIES

One of my close friends came to me in 2022.  She comes from mixed indigenous heritage & had been volunteering and working in her local community garden with a group of peers.
She told me a beautiful story about the sunflower; including what it represents, how it heals the soil and also reminds us different lessons in this life as we walk forward.

This sparked my curiosity and began my research into the Sunflower.

As I learned about this beautiful and unique plant, I started to see a brilliance in its design, the qualities it holds that serve creation, it's unique joyful features and also it's behaviors.
As I became acquainted with this beautiful cousin of the daisy, I realized that I was witnessing the brilliance of my Creator.
We are taught in the Bible, that Creator has & will provide everything we need to survive, be healthy & experience joy in this life; when we choose to partner with them by making Good Choices.

This is clearly evident in the Sunflower.

This flower is resilient, helpful, fruitful, and still looks toward the light, any chance it gets.  When it cannot find the Sun, some flowers will turn to
each other, some flowers will not.  Sunflowers, like others plants, will droop if they go too long without exposure to the sun.

They can heal the land of toxins, if placed in poisoned soil, but when they are placed in perfect soil, they grow & bloom beyond expectations; and they provide edible nutrients & medicine in a time of need.  They may not be sentient but they are still part of our community and even seem to have a personality. I don't think this is coincidence; The way our Creator works, is through their Creation.  So when we look at the sunflower, we can see lessons & teachings that can help us be better humans.
For example,
The more we care for Mother Earth, the better she'll be able to care for us in return.  We may end up in a toxic location, but we can choose to heal ourselves & our environment or leave for healthier ground.  We are created to focus on the Light and when we are struggling, we are meant to turn to each other.   Through these healthy choices and interactions, we find healing, medicine, and emotional supports.

Nature doesn't NEED us, it will continue to exist once we are gone.  But we, humans, need nature and what it provides for our survival.
It truly is a gift, designed by The One who placed the stars & planets, with Us, humanity, in mind.

THIS is AMAZING to me.
So let's show our home the
respect it deserves.
